After building up a 6% stake in 2018, Elliott Management pressured British hospitality chain Whitbread Plc to spin off its Costa Coffee business. It argued that Whitbread's two key subsidiaries, Costa and hotel chain Premier Inn, were two distinct business with very little overlap and thus could generate extra value by selling off the coffee line.
